Jeffrey Jones and Phineas Bogg

Voyagers! Was an 80’s sci-fi television show about a man named Phineas Bogg, who is part of a group of time travelers known as Voyagers. Their mission is to “travel through time to help history along.  Give it a push where it's needed.”  Phineas is a piratewho lived a few hundred years ago, but was chosen to be a Voyager.  His mode of travel is a device called an Omni.  The Omni looks like a slightly oversized, gold, pocket watch.  It features a map of the planet and two lights, one red and one green.  “When the Omni’s red, it means history is wrong.  Our job is to get everything back on track.”

Voyagers! - The Complete Series
Amazon Price: $14.99
List Price: $26.98

In the pilot episode, Phineas ends up in 1982 due to a malfunction in the Omni. (We find out later in the series that maybe it wasn’t a malfunction though.)(The Omni was only supposed to be able to take him as far as 1970.) When the Omni malfunctions, it sends him to the bedroom of Jeffrey Jones, who is mourning the loss of his parents. (Jones parents were recently killed in an accident, and he is living with his Aunt and Uncle in a high rise apartment building.) During the confusion, Phineas’ guidebook is taken by Jeffrey’s dog. Phineas needs his guidebook because it tells him what history should be, so when he comes across a red light, he knows what to fix.) During a scuffle to get the guidebook back, Jeffrey is knocked out of the bedroom window, forcing Phineas to rescue him. The only way to do that was to take him into the past. Now, stuck in time with a 12 year old kid, a missing guide book, and no way of getting Jeffrey back, Phineas decides to go on with his job. As it turns out, Jeffrey is a history wiz due to the fact that his father was a history professor.

The series aired 1982 and 1983. The series ended due to the accidental death of Jon-Erik Hexum (Phineas Bogg) on another TV series at the time called Cover Up, where he played a retired Green Beret for hire.

There were only two main cast members for this show:

Jon-Erik Hexum as Phineas Bogg
Meeno Peluce as Jeffrey Jones

Briliant show that holds up to time (no pun inteded). Not your tipical early 80s tv. But if you try to anallize the logic of the program, you'll be scratching your head at the incositecies. So let go of rationality & just enjoy the adventure!
